Shelbina Carnegie Public Library

Library Mission & History

The mission and history of Shelbina Carnegie Public Library.

--Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities~~R. David Lankes

Our mission is to be a great library for our town and the surrounding area.  When the people of Shelbina began planning for a library in 1916, they wanted the building to be in the heart of the community, and for 104 years, since its opening in 1918, the Shelbina Carnegie Library has been serving Shelby County.  We began with a book collection from the local I.O.O.F. chapter, and have since grown to thousands of books for all ages.  When technology made it's way to Shelbina in the early 1990's, the Library installed public computers.  To further serve the needs of the people, a Meeting Room was opened in 1992, along with a Children's Library as further services.   Today, the Library helps our community with many different needs and services, still in the heart of Shelbina, still striving to be a great library for our community.
